“I do want to point out that the choice of Hanoi, Vietnam as a location is pretty interesting. I think Singapore was a good opportunity for the North Korean leader and his entourage to see a little bit about how another country has developed, especially those with far fewer resources than North Korea has,” said Mr Nicholas Fang, SIIA Director of Security and Global Affairs, in Money FM’s Weekend Mornings with Jason Dasey.

He added, “Vietnam is an interesting case in point. My good friend Manu Bhaskaran has written a commentary recently talking about the huge potential of Vietnam in the months and years ahead. For Kim Jong-un to see how a communist country who was once isolated and at war, with the US/Japan/South Korea, to then come out and become such an important trading partner for all these countries and to likely outperform a lot of the global economies in the years ahead, could be a huge inspiration for the leader of North Korea. So hopefully that’s a good thing.”
