On Wednesday, 13 May, the SIIA held our second Singapore Dialogue on Sustainable World Resources, on the theme “Sustainability: A New Profit Driver?”. Videos from the dialogue are now available on YouTube, or embedded below.
News articles and other media related to the event are also available. You can also catch highlights from the SIIA’s field visit to Jambi and the Singapore Dialogue on Sustainable World Resources on Channel NewsAsia on June 30 at 8.30pm.
Rapid expansion of the commodities sector in Indonesia and other resource-rich countries has led to not only environmental problems but also frequent land ownership conflicts between plantation groups and local communities. Together with the Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) and Indonesian NGO Walhi Jambi, Channel NewsAsia (CNA) visited the Tebo district in central Sumatra and took a hard look at one such conflict that has claimed the life of young farmer Indra Pelani.
This case is yet another wake-up call for the importance of sustainable and responsible resource production, consumption, financing and supply chain management. Catch this video on the SIIA’s Second Singapore Dialogue on Sustainable World Resources and find out what the region’s plantation giants, financial institutions and other relevant stakeholders are doing to raise the sustainability bar.
This programme was first aired on Channel NewsAsia on 30 June 2015. Full videos from the panels at the Second Singapore Dialogue on Sustainable World Resources are available below.
