SINGAPORE: The top local think tank accolade belongs to the Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA), according to the 2015 Global Go To Think Tank Index. The index excludes institutes from the United States.
The index, which was released on Jan 29, showed that in the non-US ranking for top think tanks, the United Kingdom’s Chatham House came up tops, followed by Belgium’s Bruegal. South Korea’s Korea Development Institute was the highest ranking Asian institute at 8th, the ranking showed.
The SIIA came in at 52nd place, but ahead of the other local think tanks featured on the ranking. The Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) was its nearest competitor at 55th, while the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (64th), Centre on Asia and Globalization (72nd) and the Asia Competitiveness Institute (81st) were also featured in the top 100, according to the report.
Besides maintaining its strong overall position, the SIIA was the only Singaporean think tank to be ranked in the category of Best New Idea or Paradigm Developed by a Think Tank, the organisation said in a press release on Tuesday (Feb 2).
