US Vice President Kamala Harris is in Vietnam for a second leg of her ASEAN trip. Speaking to Bloomberg, Associate Professor Simon Tay, Chairman of the SIIA, said “Vietnam used to be their enemy, that America withdrew from, but now a very good friend in the political realm because of concerns about Sino-American tensions. On the business side, Vietnam has become the major beneficiary of this “leave China” movement so much so that supply chains now come from or include Vietnam. So there is everything to play for in engaging Vietnam.”
