SIIA Director Lee Chen Chen was interviewed by Hong Kong’s Phoenix News (Mandarin) on the haze situation.
“If the haze continues at the unhealthy or hazardous levels in the next few months, there will be significant socio-economic costs for Singapore, and I think in this regard it would create some political tensions between Singapore and Indonesia as well.”
“The provincial and local governments in Indonesia, I think they need to do more to support the central government’s policy against illegal deforestation and a zero burning policy. We understand that this is actually one of the challenges right now as the central government is not getting the support on the local level.”
