SIIA chairman Simon Tay was in Yangon on 10-12 December 2017 as Vice-chair of the Asia Pacific Water Forum. The Forum held its Summit, co-hosted by the Myanmar government, with State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi as the opening speaker. Other Myanmar speakers include Vice-President Henry van Thio, Yangon Chief Minister Pyo Min Thein and Thant Sin Maung, the Union Minister for Transport and Communication.
Representatives from the region and international organisations such as United Nations ESCAP and the Asian Development Bank also participated, with Singapore represented by Senior Minister of State Dr Amy Khor of the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources. In all, some 600 participants attended the three day meeting of leaders, officials and experts. Associate Professor Tay presided over the second day government proceedings.
