From regulators to financiers, producers, traders, buyers and end-consumers, every actor has a crucial part to play in greening the palm oil supply chain. This panel discussion was recorded at the 3rd Singapore Dialogue on Sustainable World Resources 2015, held at the Grand Ballroom of the Ritz-Carlton Millenia, Singapore on 15 April 2016. The Dialogue was organised by the Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA).
Many new initiatives to promote sustainable palm oil have surfaced in recent years, but challenges remain. Major palm oil players such as signatories to the Indonesian Palm Oil Pledge (IPOP) face difficulty in reconciling their zero-deforestation and zero-peat commitments with national norms. Panellists will discuss ways to motivate small- and mid-sized holdings to join zero-deforestation and zero-peat pledges, and ways to improve demand for certified sustainable palm oil, especially in emerging markets.
