The National League for Democracy (NLD) government is half-way through its term. Myanmar stands at a critical juncture where the government needs to start delivering on its election promises and bring about tangible change to the country. Otherwise, Aung San Suu Kyi and her party risk losing the public’s trust in their ability to build a new Myanmar.
To gain a deeper perspective on the new government’s plans for economic development and private sector concerns, SIIA Chairman Prof. Simon Tay met with several government officials, policy-makers and business leaders in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw this past June and July. These included H.E. U Win Khaing, Minister of Construction, Republic of the Union of Myanmar; H.E. U Tun Tun Oo, Union Attorney General, Republic of the Union of Myanmar; Dr. Sean Turnell, Economic Advisor, State Counsellor’s Office, Republic of the Union of Myanmar; U Win Aung, Founder and CEO, Dagon International Limited.
