Malaysia’s parliamentary sessions will resume from 26 July, after being suspended for over 7 months under the State of Emergency. Critics have accused the Prime Minister of suspending parliament as a way to hold on to power. In recent weeks, the King has called for Parliament to reconvene ahead of the end of the State of Emergency, on 1 August 2021. In an interview with the AFP, Dr. Oh Ei Sun, Senior Fellow at the SIIA said, “It would appear that Muhyiddin is now convinced that he commands a parliamentary majority.”
