With elections due by June, Malaysia is preparing to go to the polls. Observers are keen to see how the Najib government will fare, with a large slide in support for the ruling coalition expected. At the same time, Malaysia and Singapore are set to enter a new era of cross strait relations, with an agreement to build a high speed rail link as well as increase road and sea links between the two countries. In addition, it is hoped that with an increasing flow of immigrants between the two countries, enhanced connectivity and cooperation will grow business linkages and set a good example for the development of similar linkages among other ASEAN member countries.

  • What is the outlook of the 2013 Malaysian elections, and what are the implications for Singapore?
  • How will enhanced connectivity between Malaysia and Singapore affect cross strait relations?
  • How will the 2013 election affect the Malaysian economy? What economic benefits and opportunities are possible in the future between the two countries?
