The Singapore Institute of International Affairs is deeply saddened at the passing of our former president Mr S R Nathan. Mr Nathan had a long illustrious career in public service; he was Singapore’s longest serving President (1999-2011), and previously took on numerous key roles in the civil service. In 2005, the SIIA was honoured that he accepted our award of SIIA Honorary Member, in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to Singapore.

“Singapore has lost one of its founding generation  – Mr Nathan showcased exemplary character and leadership throughout his life and the Institute is deeply honoured to have had him as our President and our friend,” said SIIA Chairman Associate Professor Simon Tay.
