Original Event Synopsis

In November, US President Donald Trump embarked on his longest official trip to date, visiting Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines. Mr. Trump has hailed his visit as a success, while the White House has called the trip a sign of the Trump administration’s commitment to US alliances and partnerships in the region, reaffirming US leadership in Asia. Beyond discussions on resolving the conflict with North Korea, Mr. Trump’s Asian tour also focused on trade issues and market access between the US and Asian economies. What should we make of Mr. Trump’s visit?

Join us in this evening’s talk at the Singapore Institute of International Affairs as we discuss what the Trump administration hoped to get out of the Asian tour and if it has achieved its goals. The talk will also look into how Asians perceive President Trump’s visit and the US engagement with Asia.
